Jesus called us to treat our neighbour as we would like to be treated and to especially serve those in need. Our pastoral charge reaches out a helping hand to the community in a variety of ways:
West Carleton Food Bank
Baskets at the top of the stairs leading to our sanctuary are always waiting to receive your donation of non-perishable food items for the food bank. Our Food Bank Sunday at the end of each month is also a good time to donate. In Advent St. Paul’s hosts lunch for all the volunteers that collect food during the St. Nicks food drive.
In Advent donations of toiletries, socks, puzzle books, etc. are gathered for Centre 507, an adult drop in centre in downtown Ottawa on Bank St. where many patrons are dealing with homelessness or unstable housing, mental illness, addiction, poverty or loneliness.
Guest Speakers from Non-profits
Throughout the year guest speakers are invited from local non-profit service organizations and the congregation greets them with donations of goods that are needed by the clients of that service. In the past this has included laundry items for the Laundry Co-op, hats for Operation Go Home and clothes and toys for Interval House.
